THE SPEEDMASTER “SILVER SNOOPY AWARD”
50TH ANNIVERSARY

In 1970, OMEGA received the prestigious “Silver Snoopy Award” from NASA’s astronauts. The award recognised OMEGA’s unique contributions to space exploration, as well as the Speedmaster’s role in helping to save Apollo 13. Now, 50 years later, a special Snoopy watch has been created in honour of the occasion.

SPEEDMASTER HERITAGE

To faithfully represent the iconic design history of the Speedmaster, OMEGA included a 42 mm stainless steel case inspired by the legendary style of the fourth-generation chronograph—famous for being the first watch worn on the Moon.

“Snoopy was chosen as NASA’s mascot in the 1960s, to act as a safety watchdog during space flight missions.”

KEY FEATURES

The silver dial of the OMEGA Silver Snoopy Award

THE SILVER DIAL

The silver dial features a laser-engraved Ag925 marking and presents our famous beagle as an embossed silver medallion on the blue subdial at 9 o’clock. He appears wearing his iconic spacesuit, recreated in the same style as the famous Silver Snoopy Award pin.

Dot over ninety on the blue ceramic bezel

DOT OVER NINETY

The legendary tachymeter scale appears in white enamel on a blue ceramic [ZrO2] bezel ring and pays tribute to the Speedmaster’s history with the traditional dot positioned over the number ninety. The colour combination continues across the silver dial, with angular hour markers and hands in blue PVD.

Special Apollo 13 tributes on the caseback

SPECIAL TRIBUTES

The NAIAD LOCK system keeps all caseback engravings correctly aligned in an upright position, including the tributes to Apollo 13 and the Silver Snoopy Award. OMEGA received the award seven months after the Speedmaster helped support the safe return of the Apollo 13 crew.

Blue nylon strap with the Apollo 13 mission trajectory

MISSION TRAJECTORY STRAP

The blue nylon strap complements the watch’s other blue details and features the trajectory of the Apollo 13 mission embossed on its inner lining. The design includes the famous slingshot manoeuvre performed around the far side of the Moon.

Sapphire crystal

SAPPHIRE CRYSTAL

Virtually scratchproof synthetic sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective treatment for exceptional clarity and readability.

SNOOPY IN ORBIT

On the caseback, Snoopy appears inside his Command and Service Module (CSM) on a magical hand. When the chronograph seconds hand is used, Snoopy travels around the far side of the Moon, which is decorated on the sapphire crystal using a unique micro-structured metallisation. An Earth disc also rotates once per minute in synchronisation with the watch’s small seconds hand.

THE COMIC STRIP LEGACY

For over half a century, Snoopy has acted as the “watchdog” for NASA’s safety programme. As well as representing total mission success, he helps to keep things light in serious situations. Since 1968, the Silver Snoopy Award has been presented to people or companies that have contributed significantly to the success of human space flight missions.
